Larry Cohen, an independent cinema maverick, often turned seemingly innocuous elements into menacing forces: babies in 'It's Alive', ice cream in 'The Stuff', police in 'Maniac Cop', and even the U.S. in 'Uncle Sam'. In 'The Ambulance', the very vehicle meant to save lives could ironically lead to death.
