In 2001, the American League Championship Series (ALCS) saw a rematch between the New York Yankees, who had staged a remarkable comeback against the Oakland Athletics, and the Seattle Mariners, who had triumphed over the Cleveland Indians. The series, played in the aftermath of the September 11 attacks in New York City, pitted the Mariners' record-breaking 116 regular season wins against the Yankees' resilience. Despite home field advantage, the Yankees dominated the early games in Seattle. Mariners' manager Lou Piniella confidently predicted a series return to Seattle after Game 2, but the Yankees sealed the victory in New York, winning 4-1, with a decisive 12-3 win in Game 5.
